Sometimes I need to move beyond the edge, well a lot of times really, step over the proverbial Red Line. Bad Boy comes out in me, he's always there, lurking somewhere within. Perhaps so long living on the edge, well over the edge, has created this need in me to cross, cross that Red Line, to push the boundaries. This particular stretch of the N1 Freeway approaching the centre city is a racetrack on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Added to that there is major construction as they upgrade the interchange and construct new lanes in the build up to World Cup 2010. I parked on the very edge of the narrow yellow line and stood to the left of my car, using a wide angle lens to capture the oncoming traffic standing inside the traffic lane itself. When they saw me, that did what they do best, foot on the accelerator, hunt down the photographer, hell, the only thing better to kill than a photographer is to kill a road cyclist, and I'm that too. Which is a more scary experience, well I have to say road cycling, by far, and we actually do ride here, for just a short stretch until we can get off the freeway. It's a nightmare, believe me. Well Bad Boy had to chance his arm, and he will again, I'm certain of that, and quite soon too!

Series: Dans le noir
SmugMug > popular all-time > June 5 - endless reflection

“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” - Edith Wharton
SmugMug > popular all-time > Day 362 - Lemonata

The only soft drink I like to treat myself to every now and then.

Setup: Blue dishpan behind the bottle, fill the bottle with water then use a pitcher to pour into the spout. Make sure the pitcher is white or clear, it will cast colors. Its in an aluminum sink, so that adds as a foil reflector on all three sides and bottom. Out cabinets and backsplash are white, so I bounce the flash off the backsplash and underside of the cabinets to add light from above. I use a 1/8 flash setting and position the flash about the start of the dish pan - just beyond the edge (towards the back splash), this way the flash wont light the dish pan but will bounce the light very well. You won't get any glare either, but you never know what water droplets will reflect. Keep a towel handy for around the sink, yourself, and any spray back onto the lens (it happens, so don't get too close). Then take about 200 photos. :)

SmugMug > popular all-time > Samantha - Apr 06 2009

A portrait from yesterday... Samantha is the lovely daughter from good friends. Last year she was really to shy to pose, but she lost that completely now. I took a bunch of nice shots of her in the late afternoon.
Big thanks for all your support!

Sometimes you find potential photo subjects in the least likely places. This was a floral arrangement in the ladies room of a Thai Food restaurant I was having lunch in. Of course being part of the daily smugmug group, I had my camera with me :D!

A lovely (but small) log cabin covered in orange.
SmugMug > popular all-time > Well, I've learned something important this week end and I'll pass it on to you, in case you want to get into doing "shows"----don't confuse "Art Shows" with "Craft Fairs". This Holiday craft fair, as large it is, is not the venue for me. I did sell things and I've paid for my 2-day booth already but, I had higher hopes. But when the customers can buy "things" very cheaply for gifts from someone else, they will. My booth was crowded and I spent most of the day talking to a lot of very nice people, both young and old. I even made some new friends! And for that I am thankful. I went through most of my business cards (~300!) so I'm sure I'll get some calls from some of those folks when their need arises. I kept hearing all day about what a great eye I have and to keep it up so, off I go again today.....
When I got out of there yesterday, I was at the top of hill, overlooking the Bourne Bridge with a gorgeous sunset unfolding. I stopped at the nearest store to ask a local where the best spot to take in the sunset would be. He directed me to Monument Beach. So this is where I spent the next hour and a half, crashed in the sand, me and my camera....
Have a great day!
